the diderot effect obtaining a new possession creating a spiral of consumption leading to the acquisition of more new things outcome: purchasing things your previous self never needed to be happy creating a whole new person who wants and wants and wants filled to the brim and slowly emptying from the gashes it made in itself when you open your hands nothing’s there but air and the residue of more than enough
